On July 20th we celebrated our 2016 scholarship winners with a joyful event. The co-chairs, Dames May Matta-Aliah and Lori Tieszen, did a masterful job of creating the program. They and the Scholarship Committee accomplished the very difficult task of selecting23 worthy students and awarding them a total of $66,800. The committee includes Dames Joyce Appelman, Marilyn Krieger, Susan Lifrieri-Lowry, Jennifer O’Flanagan, Pnina Peled, Aileen Robbins, and Marika Vida-Arnold. We sincerely thank them.
Dames Jan Hazard and Michele Scicolone organized the event, including offering raffles for dinner at sixvery impressive restaurants. The attendees appreciatively purchased lots of tickets. Our host, the International Culinary Center,providedaccomplished servers anddelectablehors d’oeuvres. There were donations of wine fromPalm Bay thanks to Dame Bethany Burke, Ginger Beerfrom Stoli Vodka,provided by Dame Lori Tieszen, Ronnie-Sue Chocolates from Dame Rhonda Cave and Gerolsteiner water. We now have a new procedure in placefor mentoring the scholarship winners thanks to co-chairs Dames Alison Awerbuch and Suzi O’Rourke. Our recipients will be invited to spend a day alongside, and observing a Dame who is a pro in the fieldto which they aspire. It should prove to be aone-of-a-kind experience for the students.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in our reception. It is one of our most important achievements of the year, and the reception was our chance to celebrate it.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to make the trip to this North Fork winery because of some conflicts that have come up for Dame Ursula Massoud. We hope that we will be able to reschedule itfor next year.
On Monday, September26th, we will celebrate our very impressive new members with dinner at the very popular restaurantRotisserie Georgette.Last year’s chair,Dame Sharon Franke, is promising to make this year’s induction event dinner one of the best programs of the year. We’ll also be celebrating the 40th(40th!!!) anniversary of our organization!
The dates of the conference are October 26th to 29th in Washington, DC. Last year we had an impressive program in Charleston, SC. Washington is anotherformidablechapterorganizing what looks to be another great conference. It will soon be time to vote for the new Board of Directors andNominating Committee members. The easy-to-use Election Buddy format will be e-mailed to all our members thanks to Dame Mary Ellen Griffin who is an expert on the process. When you receive the ballot, please respond as soon as possible.
