Armagnac is a very special French brandy that is not well known in this country. We now know all about it - or at least a great deal - thanks to our program on February 26th. It was a complete success. The speaker, Dame May Matta-Aliah, is an expert on the subject. She gave an excellent talk and conducted a tasting. It was held at the lovely Cooking by the Book facility of Dame Suzi O’Rourke, who generously donated the space. The Armagnacs were superb. Dame Ariane Daguin contributed delicious D’Artagnan hors d’oeuvres, and we ended with treats from Dame Rhonda Sue Kave’s Roni-Sue’s Chocolates. The chocolates were wonderful with the Armagnacs. A very big thank you to everyone who did so much to make this a great program.
The Hungarian National Tourist Office and Consul General of Hungary will host us at the Consulate on the evening of Thursday, March 31st. The Hungarian Ambassador to the UN will be addressing us. We will have a variety of Hungarian wines and food treats, and we can expect to learn a great deal about both this fascinating country and the Bocuse d’Or chef competition scheduled to take place in Budapest in May.
Dame Lidia Bastianich has invited us to a three-course lunch at her restaurant, Felidia, on Wednesday, April 27th. The food and wine is sure to be molto bene! We will also have the opportunity to buy her new cookbook, Mastering the Art of Italian Cooking, at a discount and signed by Lidia.
A barbeque dinner matched with Jim Beam small batch bourbon is being organized for us in May by Dame Elizabeth Karmel. She has graciously offered to host us on Wednesday, May 18th, on the roof of her West 23rd Street apartment building. More details to follow.
These dates for future LDNY Events are confirmed. Please save them!

Our thanks to Dame Penelope Pate-Greene who has offered to host the Legacy Award winner at her large, beautiful West Side apartment. The winner will spend a week there while interning at Family Circle magazine. Isn’t our organization kindhearted?
