Thanks to Dame Lori Tieszen, who represents Stolichnaya Vodka Group, we were invited to the Stoli offices on January 14th and treated to a tasting of their new elit Vodka with hors d’oeuvres and caviar. It was delicious. Representatives of the company told us about how their vodkas are made and gave is some tips on combining the different styles of vodka with food. The program was in very good taste, in more ways than one!
Our next big treat will be on Thursday, February 25th, at Dame Suzi O’Rourke’s facility, Cooking by the Book. It is a tasting of Armagnac, the wonderful French brandy that is older than Cognac. It has extraordinary flavors and complexity. Dame May Matta-Aliah will be our guide. She is the New York Armagnac Ambassador and is an expert on the topic. D’Artagnan and Roni-Sue’s Chocolates are providing treats.
Most Americans are only starting to be aware of how interesting Hungary is. Now that the communist restrictions have been lifted, Hungary is producing many great wines and foods as we will see on March 31st. The impressive Hungarian Consulate on East 52nd Street is the site and the UN Ambassador of Hungary will be our host. They have generously offered us this program at no cost to us, so LDNY will receive 100% of the proceeds.
Dame Lidia Bastianich has generously offered us lunch at her restaurant Felidia on Wednesday, April 27th. Her food is extraordinary. And we will have the opportunity to purchase her new cookbook, Lidia’s Mastering the Art of Italian Cuisine. at a discount. Save the date!
The Summer Fancy Food Show in June brings Dames from all over the country to New York City. Last year we held a reception for the visitors at Corkbuzz. It was fun to meet so many members from around the country and find out what they are up to. We’ll be offering the program again this year on June 27th.
One of the best and most famous wineries on Long Island’s North Fork, Paumanok, is owned by Dame Ursula Winter Massoud and her family. On Sunday, September 11th we’ll have the opportunity to tour the vineyards and winery, taste some of their very best wines and have lunch. Transportation will be provided.
The LEDI Legacy Awards provide wonderful experiences for the winners. This year Good Housekeeping Magazine is giving an award. We need to provide a place for the recipient to stay during the week of her internship, from a Sunday evening to the following Friday evening. Dates will be determined by the hostess, Good Housekeeping and the recipient and will probably take place in July, August or September.
