The 2015 LDNY Holiday Party was a wonderful event. Over 80 Dames attended a lovely dinner at Barbetta restaurant owned by Dame Laura Maioglio. Sincere thanks to our Holiday Party Expert and Chair, Dame Eleanor Sigona and her committee, Dames Marsha Palanci, Michele Scicolone, Jan Hazard and Jeanne Voltz. The food was beyond excellent and there were delectable wines from The Winebow Group, all produced by women winemakers, and donated by our ever generous Dame Marilyn Krieger. The champagne came from Dame Roberta Morrell and Dame Lori Tieszen gave us elit by Stoli vodka. What a special way to bring this great year to a close.
A luxurious way to celebrate the New Year is almost here. It’s a tasting of vodka and caviar offered by Dame Lori Teizen who represents the Stoli Group USA. It will take place on January 14, 2016 at the Stoli offices at135 East 57th Street from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Here’s the link to Brown Paper Tickets if you would like to join the fun: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2475222
Plans for upcoming events for the new year are being busily worked on by Co-chairs Joyce O’ Neill and Jeanne Voltz. Just some of what we can look forward to:
Armagnac, the very special French brandy that is even more historic than Cognac will be the subject at a program on February 25. We’ll learn about it and have the chance to taste some wonderful examples with Dame May Matta-Aliah who is the US Armagnac Ambassador. Save the date.
Dame Hiroko Shimbo will give us a hands-on demonstration of okonomiyaki, the wonderful savory Japanese pancakes that contain all kinds of delicious ingredients. We will learn how to make them and then get to taste the yummy selection. Planned for late March.
And also coming up is an LDNY reception at the elegant Consulate their gastronomy. It will include great food and some of the excellent wines that Hungarians make but are so little known in the US.
Dame Joan Bloom recently discovered the many references to LDEI in Savoring Gotham: A Food Lover’s Companion to New York City from Editor-in-chief Andrew Smith, published by Oxford University Press. It is now available in paperback. The book is a comprehensive bibliography of the best writing on NYC food and drink. And very nice for us, it contains lots of references to our organization and profiles of many our members including our founder, Carol Brock. This is a book worth looking into.
In 2016, we will continue to showcase the fantastic and meaningful contributions our members make to the culinary and beverage world – for LDNY as well as in our everyday work lives.
As part of our focus on raising awareness about the diverse expertise of LDNY members, I encourage you to share information about news in your own business. Be on the lookout for a note in the coming weeks regarding an internal e-mail blast highlighting LDNY member news.
