Thanks to Dames Beth Allen and Deborah Mintcheff our Website is being totally redesigned and updated. They expect to have it ready to go live in a few months. The design will be attractive and inviting, and will exemplify who we are as a chapter. The new look and useful up-to-date information it contains we hope will encourage everyone to check the site on a regular basis. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
From Dame Joan Bloom:
“The Dames and guests who enjoyed the Sunday Supper at BLVD Bistro in Harlem on June 7th were treated to an array of delectable Southern dishes inspired by the Chef/Owner Carlos Swepson’s Mississippi roots, and were enhanced with unique touches that reflect his culinary training and creativity. BLVD Bistro’s setting is at once homey and spirited, and showcases Harlem as the center of a restaurant renaissance that we all plan to revisit. It was a sensational event.
Many thanks to Dame Ursula Massoud for Paumanok’s 2014 Dry Rose, and to Dame Nora Favelukes for providing the red and white wines from Argentina. “
The Northeast Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier is coming to New York to attend the Fancy Food Show at the end of the month and they asked Dame Ronnie Campbell if they could get together with our membership. We of course said yes, since we are known for our hospitality.
The Program Committee put on its skates on and organized an event. We will meet at the very hip wine bar, Corkbuzz, in its recently opened second facility in the Chelsea Market. The date is Monday June 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. We will welcome the visiting Dames to New York, enjoy seeing one another and have some excellent wine. What a fun evening!
Plans for the Scholarship Reception are being completed. Event Chairs Kathleen Sanderson and Margaret Happel-Perry have outdone themselves in gathering prizes for the fund-raiser raffle.
Scholarship Chairs Karen Goodlad and May Matta-Aliah and the committee have worked non-stop for the past month to select the recipients, give them the good news and create the evening’s presentation. It is one of the proudest moments of our year. I hope that you will be there to share in the honors and festivities.
Thank you notes from the winners are coming in. They are very touching. I’ve shared a bit of one with you at the end of this letter.
This month the Board voted to make Dame Shirley Alpert an Emeritus member. She is currently in a long-term care facility in Forrest Hills and Dame Jane Kettlewell reports that she is doing well, but is confined to a wheelchair. If you wish to pay her a visit or send a note, her address follows. I am sure that she would be most grateful.

We are concerned that some members believe that they receive too many e-mails from our organization. However, members often have information they’d like to share with us, and many members are happy to receive it.
Enjoy the summer and have a very happy 4th of July!
This comes from the recipient of the Founder’s Scholarship, Nina Vizcarrondo, who attends NYU:
“Upon receiving the news from Les Dames d’Escoffier New York, I honestly began to tear up. Being awarded by one of my schools best assets, who is both a professor and also a Dame made me feel even more grateful for this opportunity. Feeling honored is an understatement. I want to express my deepest gratitude of behalf of my family for awarding me the Founder’s Scholarship.”
