In honor of Dame Carol Brock, the New York Chapter of Les Dames d´Escoffier has created the “Carol Brock/Les Dames d´Escoffier New Acquisitions Program” at New York University´s esteemed Fales Library--now home to one of the most important cookbook collections in the country. This program enables Fales to expand its collection of books, manuscripts and guides that document food history and culture. This outstanding collection supports the study of food and culture throughout the university and beyond: from nutrition and hospitality to history, language, ethnic studies, anthropology, sociology and more.
Permanent Plaque
Fales Library will acknowledge Carol Brock with a permanent plaque to be placed in the Fales Reading Room. The acquired books will have bookplates marking Carol and the Les Dames d'Escoffier program--something to live on forever! Our goal is to raise $50,000, which will be used over a five-year period.
New Acquisition Program
Along with our original goal of creating this Carol Brock initiative, this program will enable the mission of LDNY to expand beyond our very successful scholarship program. We will become an integral part of an exciting new acquisitions program for books related to food, cooking, wine, and gastronomy and participate in the development of Fales Library as the most important cookbook collection in the country.
Each of our LDNY members will become "ambassadors" for NYU in the procurement and selection of books for the Fales collection. In fact, some of our members have already contributed books and ephemera. And lastly, this program will help us to expand our brand into a new area, which will help to broaden our exposure during the next five years and beyond.
Specific Benefits of the Fales program to LDNY and/or its members are:
