Plans for new programs and events are bursting at the seams. Here’s a taste of what is coming up.
Thanks to Marsha Palanci and a committee of Board members, a very exciting fundraiser is being planned for October. The goals are to gain funds for our scholarships and to create interest in the food and beverage world that will raise the profile of our organization. We intend to have it become a highly anticipated and well-attended annual event. We are in the process of lining up a panel of high-profile people in the food world. More details will follow as soon as the plans are finalized. It will be held on the evening of Monday, October 26, so save the date!
Our hard working Programs Committee has many interesting events planned for the next few months.
April 27, 2015. 6:30 to 8:30 pm, at Cooking by the Book, 13 Worth St. Come join us for mojitos, music and good food. With the recent improvement of America-Cuban relations, travel to Cuba is on the rise. This is a great opportunity to learn about the largely unknown world of Cuban cuisine and culture. The $65 fee includes a copy of the book “The Cuban Table” by speaker Ana Sofia Pelåez. It will be a very entertaining evening.
Jackson Heights is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the United States. Visit there on Saturday, May 16, 2015 with tour guide Dame Surbhi Sahni to learn about the varied traditions and cultures and, of course, sample delectable foods.
Sunday June 7, 2015 at the Blvd. Bistro. Harlem is a thriving and economically growing community, with fine food, arts, architecture, and great spirit. This is a perfect opportunity to visit and get an insiders view of this newly fashionable neighborhood.
This is always such a proud occasion for our organization. We get to meet the deserving recipients of our scholarship awards. They are happy, and we are pleased. It’s a great evening for everyone! It will happen on Tuesday, July 21, 2015.
We have a date for our induction event – it is Monday, September 28, 2015. Co-chairs hair Sharon Franke and Joan Coukos have some elegant and tasty plans in the works, the details of which will be announced soon. Stay tuned and save the date!
If you have a candidate in mind to nominate as a new member, please be aware that the application deadline of May 15th is coming up soon.
Applications for the wonderful LDEI Legacy Awards are surprisingly few. Please consider someone who might like to apply. The deadline is April 27 so time is running out and with the low number of applicants there is a greater likelihood of being chosen for those who apply. Such great events to look forward to. I hope to see you at many of them!
